Munira Abdifatah Abdi, 15, a student at Mus’ab Educational Centre based in Nairobi’s Eastleigh yesterday won Sh2 million after emerging top ten in the 2022 Quran recitation championship held in Dubai.
She emerged number eight out of 300 competitors across the world in an event held on 12 October 2022. She was sponsored by Shekhah Fatimah in the competition as reported by Nation Africa.
Munira represented Kenya in the annual event after emerging a winner countrywide and at the East and Central Africa Competition held in Rwanda in July 2022.
The competition which brought together thousands of students across different countries aimed at testing their prowess in reciting sections of the Islamic holy book.
While talking to the media after the competition Abdifatah said the seven days trip had given her an opportunity to share and exchange ideas with other students across the world.
Touching on her dreams she said she would like to be a diplomat after school representing Kenya and learning more from other people on how to improve lives back at home.
She added she would use some of the money to support her family and the rest for her education.
While lauding Abdifatah, Jimale Sheikh, Director Mus’ab Education Centre, noted that she was the second student from the school to win in the competition adding that the school shall keep preparing others for the competition because it is part of their curriculum.
In May 2021, 15-year-old Yunus Masoud scooped the annual Quran competition award that pitted students from across the continent.
