Kenya Urban Roads Authority, KURA, yesterday trained school children on road safety at Eldoret Traffic Safety Park. The children were trained road signage, safe places to cross and safe cycling practices.
The initiative by Kura aims at creating awareness on the role road safety plays in facilitating urban mobility.
Toward this end, the Authority has established six Traffic Safety Parks nationally, located in Nairobi, Embu, Kakamega, Nyeri, Kisii, and Kisumu.
The Parks are equipped with facilities including marked lanes, videos, animations, and graphics for teaching road safety measures to those who visit the parks.
Frequent clients to the parks include school-going children, university students, and organized groups which visit the parks to learn about road safety skills free of charge.
The safety skills taught at the Parks include safe crossing points, road signage, traffic lights, and road crossing techniques, safe cycling practices and safe boarding and alighting from public transport.
To visit any of the parks, booking is required for proper planning.
