The Senate Health Committee will today meet Travis Maina’s mother with an aim of kick starting investigating into her baby’s death at Kenyatta National Hospital (KNH) with a Fork Jembe lodged in his head.
Also the senate will be investigating the death of Edward Otieno, who died at Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital due to alleged negligence.
The committee will meet Travis’ mother, Judy Muthoni, this morning while Otieno’s mother, Ruth, will appear tomorrow to shed light on the order of events that led to the deaths of their children.
Mandera Senator Ali Roba led committee is investigating accusations of negligence at the hospitals.
Baby Travis died at Kenyatta Hospital after waiting too long in the emergency area before receiving any treatment.
According to the hospital the two-year-old succumbed during surgery as medics tried to remove a fork jembe lodged in his head.
Meanwhile it is alleged that Otieno died as a result of negligence at Mama Lucy Hospital, where he was rushed after a road accident.
Senator Jackson Mandago said the committee would summon officials from KNH, Thika Level Five, Kiambu Level Five and Mama Lucy, as well as the Health Cabinet Secretary.
He added that the investigations will also help identify gaps and policy issues affecting the referral system.
