Five children, their mother and grandmother were on Wednesday shot dead by their father inside a southern Utah home, USA, in a suspected murder-suicide, officials announced Thursday.
The children ranged between ages 4 to 17 and included three girls and two boys. The children were identified by age as a 17-year-old girl, a 12-year-old girl, a 7-year-old girl, a 7-year-old boy and a 4-year-old boy.
The five children attended schools in the Iron County School District, officials said in a letter to parents.
The children’s father, 42-year-old Michael Haight is said to have committed this heinous crime after his wife Tausha Haight, 40, filed for divorce from her husband on December 21 according to court record.
Her lawyer said Thursday that Haight had been served with the divorce papers on Dec. 27.
Police were dispatched to the family’s home Wednesday afternoon for a welfare check after someone reported that Tausha Height had missed an appointment earlier in the week, city officials said.
