Botched Circumcision Cases on the Raise as 1 Boy Die and Dozens Hospitalized

Alarm has been raised over increased cases of botched circumcision after 20 cases were reported across the country.

Of these, one boy ,14, have died as a result of a botched circumcision in Uasin Gishu as 16 others  have been treated at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital for secondary complication of infections in the last one month..

One of the 16 boys is in the intensive care unit at the facility receiving specialized treatment.

The boy who hails from Tarakwa, Uasin Gishu County succumbed to an infection obtained from a traditional circumcision conducted on 3rd December.

The teen who had just completed his KCPE exams and scored 395 marks started vomiting, losing appetite and was lethargic two days after the procedure. His legs begun to swell and he complained of chest and stomach pains.

Speaking to the Nation, his father Gilbert Kirwa Maina said he took his son to the hospital 18 days from the time of the initiation.

It was after his condition worsened that he was taken to a bigger hospital in Eldoret and put in the ICU after being diagnosed with peptic shock and later succumbed.

On the same breath, a family in Bungoma County is scrupling with where it will get funds to take their 11 years old son for specialized skin grafting out of the country two months he was circumcised at Bungoma Referral Hospital.

The family speaking to Citizen Tv said it have exhausted its saving after using over one hundred and fifty thousand to treat their son whose private parts are rotting away.

Meanwhile police in Ongata Rongai , Kajiado County are hunting for a quack doctor who mutilated a boy in his clinic,St. Cates Medical Centre.

The owner of this facility and his workers are hiding after wrongly circumcising the 13 years boy who is now recuperating at Kenyatta National Hospital.

On a related case, KTN anchor Najma Ismail through her twitter handle called out a local doctor for botch circumcision on her two sons who developed severe complication almost costing their loves.

She said she took her two sons to Care Hospital in Eastleigh for the rite of passage but the whole situation turned into a nightmare.

She was later forced to do two constructive surgery to correct the mistake after four weeks.
