A 16- year-old Form One student from Chemase secondary school has died after he was allegedly assaulted by his teachers.
Kelvin Kiptanui is said to have died hours after he was admitted at Nandi-Hills level 4 in critical condition.
The student, who was hardly two weeks old at the institution, is reported to have been assaulted by his teachers for making references in a Physics textbook during an afternoon Friday quiz.
The body was transferred to Nandi-Hills hospital mortuary awaiting postmortem examination to determine the cause of death.
According to Tinderet sub-county police commander Ali Jire, the matter was reported his mother on Sunday.
However, he said the school is yet to make a formal report with the police on the death and the circumstances surrounding the death
“It is a very complex incident because the school is yet to make a formal report with the police on the death and the circumstances surrounding the death,” Jire said.
His mother, Monica Cherobon said her son was well when he reported to the school about two weeks ago.
She added that her son was first was rushed to the dispensary and was referred to Nandi-Hills hospital after it became evident his condition was critical.
Following the incident, Nandi county commissioner Herman Shiambi has called for a thorough investigation into the incident.
On his side, School principal Martin Masika said he had nothing to comment on the incident. After he was contacted by the media.
