25 Newborns Dies Every Month In Naivasha Level 4 Hospital

Records from Naivasha Level 4 Hospital have shown that 15-25 babies die every month in this facility.

This was disclosed yesterday by members of the Nakuru County Assembly Health Committee led by Naivasha East MCA Stanley Karanja who visited the facility. The Committee visited the hospital following numerous complaints from Naivasha residents.

Mr. Karanja described the facility as a death trap that doesn’t deserve to have a maternity saying the situation shook them to the core.

The legislators said that they were informed by the hospital management that they have incurred huge debts running into 300 million in two years. As a result, supply of necessary medical supplies becomes impossible.

“We have learnt that this hospital is losing over 20 newborn babies every month, patients are struggling to get food and there is an acute shortage of staff,” Karanja said.

The hospital’s management attributed the high mortality rate to a lack of supplies after vendors refused to honour existing agreements until they were paid for past deliveries.

Further, it was established that the maternity wing had only one nurse which raised a lot of concerns. In addition, the legislators found that incubators in the maternity wing had broken down months before and the last medical dispatch was made in November 2022.
