The Media Council of Kenya (MCK) has distanced itself from the press release
This press release supposedly issued by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) is FAKE.
The statement alleges that MCK has condemned the Kericho county governor and demanded an apology over claims of attacking journalists.
“We take this early opportunity to inform the governor that media practitioners are well trained professionals who can’t be directed to carry stories the way a governor wants… Bringing goons to stop journalists from asking questions is the most outdated way of attempting to coerce the press to submission,” the statement reads in part.
The text accompanying the post reads: “The fall and fall of Dr. Eric Mutai, Kericho County Governor.”
A thorough verification process was undertaken to establish the veracity of the press release. Both the MCK’s verified Twitter and Facebook accounts were examined, and the fabricated document was not found on either platform.
Instead, a post disavowing the document’s authenticity was discovered, reinforcing the fact that it holds no association with the MCK.
Further, a comprehensive keyword search failed to yield any substantive results, a fact that would have been unlikely had the alleged incident occurred as described.
