This photo on Facebook purportedly showing Azimio la Umoja One Kenya leader Raila Odinga sitting on a bird-crafted throne in Nigeria is ALTERED.
The photo posted on 2 September 2023 was accompanied by a text claiming that Odinga was in Nigeria, where he was crowned an elder at an invite-only ceremony held along the banks of Osun River in Osogbo town.
To confirm the authenticity of the photo, Mtoto News performed a Google reverse image search and discovered that the original picture is of Jean-Bédel Bokass, when he crowned himself Emperor of the Central African Republic on 4 December 1977.
The image was also published by the BBC.
On 2 September 2023 when the post was made, Raila was in the country and attended a funeral service in Vihiga county.
