FALSE: This photo of a 61-year-old woman marrying a 12-year-old boy is not from Kisii, Kenya

The image is from a 2014 incident in South Africa

This Facebook post with images supposedly of a 61-year-old woman marrying a 12-year-old boy in Kisii County, Kenya, is FALSE. 

The image is a collage of two photos showing an individual in a suit and a lady in a gown at what appears to be a wedding ceremony.

“Kisii again. Shock as a 61-year-old Kisii granny marries a 12-year-old boy in a well organised wedding. The two are said to be in a romantic relationship for the last two years.,” the text accompanying the photos read.

 To confirm the authenticity of the photo, Mtoto News conducted Google reverse image search on the photos and discovered that the incident happened in South Africa in 2014.

The couple was identified as Sanele Masilela (the groom) and Helen Shabangu (the bride).

The photos were taken at the couple’s wedding ceremony held in Kildare Village, Ximhungwe near Bushbuckridge, Mpumalanga, South Africa.
