This Facebook post with an image supposedly of the Israeli flag displayed at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi, Kenya is FALSE.
The photo posted on 16/10/2023 shows the Israeli flag displayed on the upper part of the KICC building.
“A beautiful display of the Israeli flag on the KICC, Nairobi . Kenya stands with Israel,” reads the post.
The latest Israeli-Palestine war erupted on 7 October 2023. Many countries have since come out to show solidarity with either Israel or Palestine.
Rallies have been held, flag colours lit up around the world and banners displayed in support of the two states currently involved in the conflict.
To confirm the authenticity of the photo, Mtoto News conducted a Google reverse image search and established that the picture was altered.
The original photo was published by Varsity Scope in July 2022 and does not feature the Israeli flag. It also predates the 2023 Israel-Palestine conflict.
Mtoto News browsed through KICC’s Facebook page, X account (formerly Twitter) and website, but we did not find any such image.
Additionally, we contacted KICC through a direct message on its verified Instagram page and confirmed that the building did not display the Israeli flag.
