Fire Tragedy Kills 17 Pupils at Hillside Endarasha Academy in Nyeri

Nyeri, Kenya– A tragic fire at Hillside Endarasha Academy Primary School in Nyeri County has claimed the lives of 17 students. The fire broke out at midnight, while the children, aged about nine years, were asleep in their dormitory.

Police Spokeswoman Resila Onyango confirmed that more children might still be missing, as some have not yet been found.

“We lost 16 pupils who were burnt beyond recognition and there is another one who died while being taken to hospital,” the Spokeswoman said.

Nyeri County Police Commander Benjamin Rotich said that 14 other students were seriously injured. The cause of the fire is not yet known, and investigations are ongoing to find out what started the blaze.

With a total of 824 pupils in the school, many parents rushed to the scene in panic to check on their children. Emergency responders were quick to arrive but found it difficult to save all the students as the fire spread quickly.

This heartbreaking incident has raised serious concerns about fire safety and emergency plans in schools across the country. Authorities are working closely with the school to investigate what happened and prevent such tragedies in the future.
