Today is World Children’s Day, and this year’s theme, “Listen to the Future. Stand Up for Children’s Rights,” feels really important to me. I mean, who else is the future if not us…children? But sometimes, it feels like adults don’t really listen to what we have to say, even though we’re the ones who will grow up to live in the world they’re shaping.
Every day, kids like me face different challenges. Some of us don’t have access to good schools or enough food, while others live in places where it’s unsafe to play outside or even go to sleep at night. We didn’t choose these problems, but they affect us the most. That’s why it’s so important for adults to stand up for our rights because without their help, it’s hard for us to make things better.
I think listening to the future means really hearing us when we share our thoughts, dreams, and even worries. We have ideas about how to solve problems like pollution, bullying, and even global warming. We talk about these things in school, with friends, and sometimes even in our families. But often, it feels like no one takes us seriously just because we’re young.
The truth is, we want to be part of the solution. When adults involve us in decisions, we feel respected and hopeful. Like in my class, we recently talked about children’s rights…… things like the right to education, safety, and being treated equally. Learning about these rights made me realize that they’re not just words on paper. They’re promises that need to be kept.
But standing up for our rights isn’t just about listening; it’s about action. It’s about making sure every child has clean water to drink, a safe place to live, and the chance to dream big. It’s about speaking up when we see unfairness and teaching us how to do the same.
For me, World Children’s Day isn’t just a celebration, it’s a reminder. A reminder that we matter, that our voices count, and that the future depends on what happens today. So, if you’re an adult reading this, I hope you’ll take a moment to ask the kids in your life how they feel and what they think. You might be surprised by how much we have to say.
Because when you listen to us, you’re not just hearing kids talk, but you’re hearing the future. And when you stand up for our rights, you’re helping us build a world where every child can feel safe, happy, and free to be themselves. Isn’t that the kind of world we all deserve?
