A two-year-old boy from Ohio, USA shot and killed his eight- months-pregnant mother while playing with a gun he allegedly found on his parents’ nightstand, police said.
According to police that responded to a 911 call from their house last Friday at around 1:15 p.m, the mother had been shot in the back by her 2-year-old son inside their Norwalk home, according to a press release from the Norwalk Police Department.
Before 31-year-old Laura Ilg died she told police that the room is typically kept locked and multiple baby gates are set up around the house, according to Cleveland 19 News. She reportedly said her son somehow got into the room and started playing with the gun while she was doing laundry.
The Norwalk Police Department’s detective bureau found a number of child safety features in the home, including safety gates at almost every doorway and child locks on all drawers, the release said.
Both the mother and her son “were found in the upstairs master bedroom, along with” a pistol, the release said.
According to the release, she was rushed to Fisher-Titus Medical Center, where surgeons performed an emergency c-section. However, Ilg’s unborn child died, and Ilg was declared dead about three hours later.
