On Wednesday 15 night, a devastating fire broke out at the University of Nairobi’s Taifa Hall, specifically affecting the historic Gandhi Wing. Which blaze began in the kitchen of a restaurant within the structure before rapidly spreading to other areas, including part of the administration offices. The fire’s intensity was captured in videos shared on social media, showing thick smoke and flames visible across the campus. Emergency responders were quickly mobilized to contain the inferno.
The fire had unfortunately impacted on the students residing in the building. Approximately 88 students who lived on the second floor of Taifa Hall were affected by the blaze of which Ten students were hospitalized with minor injuries, but fortunately, no serious casualties have been reported from the latest report. The cause of the fire remains unknown, and investigations are ongoing . The university is working to provide support to those affected, ensuring that they have the necessary resources during this challenging time.
The incident has raised concerns among students and staff, particularly as it occurred just before scheduled exams. However, university officials have reassured stakeholders that academic activities will continue uninterrupted.
