Some children need extra help to stay happy, healthy, and learn well. The Children Act 1989 says a child is “in need” if they cannot stay healthy or learn properly without support from local services.
This includes:
- Children with disabilities.
- Kids who take care of family members.
- Families who don’t have enough money or are facing big problems at home.
These children usually face tough challenges. Some need free school meals or extra help in class. In some places, kids don’t get the healthcare they need because it is too expensive or there aren’t enough doctors. Some children have illnesses that require special care at home, which can be hard for their families. Many also feel sad or worried but cannot get therapy because it costs too much.
To help, schools and communities should work together so children feel safe and supported. We should make sure that all kids can get healthcare and mental health support. When we understand their needs and help them, we give every child hope and a chance for a better future!
