Two girls,11 years old and 16 years old from Kenana primary school in Njoro, Nakuru county were on Tuesday 16th September 2025, mocked and ashamed by a female teacher in front of other teachers in the staffroom for not wearing underwear leaving them too ashamed and broken to return to the school.
During an interview with NTV Kenya the two sisters felt that the female teacher could have addressed the issue more appropriately by calling them aside to talk about it privately.
Due to the incident, the girls stopped going to school because they were feeling too embarrassed to face their classmates and teachers and also afraid that other kids would laugh at them in a mean way at school.
The residents of Njoro condemned the action and called for disciplinary action to be taken against the responsible teacher to serve as a lesson to the rest. And the teachers should treat the pupils with respect regardless of their backgrounds, one resident emphasised.
In another story reported by TV47, parents protest outside Kenana primary school demanding justice for the two girls who were humiliated.
The girls’ mother felt sad and deeply heartbroken by what happened. She did not understand why the teacher acted that way and said that the teacher could have called her to discuss the matter privately as they are both women.
No child should be ashamed of being poor. Teachers and school administration at large should adopt more sensitive ways of addressing issues related to student/pupils welfare especially for girls. Instead of humiliation, let’s offer support.
