Google Rolls Out AI Tool for Enhancing the Safety of Kids Online

Written by Manasseh Githua

Google has introduced a new age-detecting tool driven by AI in a move aimed at enhancing the online safety of kids. The new tool aims at enabling young people to have a safer and more age-appropriate experience on the internet.

The AI tool is designed to estimate the users’ age from data such as browsing history and account information. When the product determines that a user is potentially underage, Google will default to a more private online experience. The product will also prompt users to verify their age where necessary.

With kids spending more time online, their safety has been a growing concern. This new AI capability is part of Google’s continuous efforts to protect young users from explicit content and online harm. By better detecting users’ ages, Google can offer more individualized and safe experiences for children.

Along with the AI functionality, Google is also revamping its Family Link app. The app allows parents to exert greater control over their children’s online activities. New features in the app include settings to minimize distractions during school hours and greater control over what content their children can access.

This project is to be introduced worldwide, benefiting millions of child internet users. Through the assistance of advanced AI technology, Google is making a proactive effort towards a safer internet world for children.

Google’s new AI-driven age detection tool and upgrades to the Family Link app are a significant leap in online child safety. As the online world continues to evolve, such measures are necessary to help make sure children can use the internet responsibly and safely.
