Parents who are worried about their children using Roblox should simply not allow them on the platform, according to the gaming giant’s chief executive.
Roblox is one of the largest gaming platforms in the world, with over 80 million daily players, with about 40% of whom are under 13. The platform hosts more than 40 million user-generated games and experiences, making it a hub for creativity, interaction, and entertainment. While the company has taken steps to ensure children’s safety, concerns persist about exposure to inappropriate content, online grooming, and cyberbullying.
Despite Roblox’s efforts to protect young users, reports indicate that children still manage to access inappropriate content. While the company asserts that “tens of millions” of players have positive experiences, parents and child safety advocates continue to highlight gaps where harmful material bypasses protection mechanisms. Even with parental controls, children, particularly those in households with multiple siblings, often find ways to communicate in unsafe spaces.
In November last year, Roblox took measures such as prohibiting direct messaging for users under 13 and restricting their access to in-game chat features within “hangout experiences.” The platform also employs automated filters to block personal information sharing and redirecting conversations to external platforms. However, these safeguards are reportedly being circumvented through rewording and coded messaging, making complete protection challenging. Additionally, certain games, such as Late Night Boys and Girls Club RP and Special Forces Simulator, have been flagged as potentially inappropriate for younger players.
As Mtoto News, we strongly advocate for child rights and digital safety. These concerns underscore the urgent need for stricter online protections and responsible digital behavior. Parents, educators, and stakeholders must remain proactive to ensure that children’s online experiences are safe, constructive, and enriching.
As the digital landscape continues to evolve, child safety must remain a top priority. Gaming platforms like Roblox must strengthen security measures, while parents and guardians must actively monitor their children’s online activities. A safer digital world for children is possible, but only if everyone plays their part.
