Online gaming is a fun way for kids and teens to meet new friends and explore creative worlds. But keeping everyone safe, especially teens, can be tricky. That’s why Roblox, one of the most popular gaming platforms, has introduced brand-new safety tools aimed at protecting its teenage users.
Starting July 2025, Roblox now lets teens create what are called “trusted connections.” This means that teenagers, aged 13 to 17, can chat freely only with people they truly know in real life. To make sure users are really teens, Roblox asks them to submit a short video selfie. Using artificial intelligence (AI), the system checks their age. If the AI isn’t sure, teens can show an ID to verify their age.
Roblox also made it harder for teens to connect with adults unless they actually know them personally, requiring QR code scans or contact imports. On top of that, teens can control who sees when they’re online and activate a “do not disturb” mode to focus on their games without interruptions.
Parents get more control too. They can see who their teens have added as trusted friends, track what games their kids play, set daily time limits, and receive alerts about spending inside the game. This gives families new ways to keep gaming safe and balanced.
These changes come because Roblox has had problems in the past with children encountering unsafe situations. Nearly 40% of Roblox players are under the age of 13, which means keeping the platform safe is very important.
With these fresh safety features, Roblox is aiming to build a space where children can have fun, make real friends, and feel protected. It’s a big step toward making the online world safer for everyone.
