Police Launch Manhunt for Teacher after Defiling Six Girls, Impregnating One

February 22, 2023

A teacher at Nyajanja Mixed Secondary School in Rangwe, Homa Bay County is being hunted by police for allegedly defiling six students, impregnating one in the process.

The 38-year-old teacher, who was employed by the school’s Board of Management (BOM), is alleged to have been defiling the six students in the latrines.

His actions came to light after learners at the school threatened to strike after learning he was engaging in sexual activities with some of the girls.

Initial investigations revealed that the teacher would send the girls love messages on phones and lure them into engaging in sexual activities.

It was discovered they were communicating after evening studies before the girls sneak out of their dormitory to meet him in the school latrines.

According to Rangwe Deputy County Commissioner Alfet Jillo, medical report after laboratory examination indicated that one of the six girls has been confirmed pregnant.

In a fact-finding mission to the school, Jillo accompanied by area MP Lilian Gogo, sub-county Police Commander Magdaline Chebet and education officials, said security team is actively looking for the suspect who disappeared after his misdeeds became public.

“The incident was reported on February 13 and the culprit is now at large but will be apprehended very soon,” she noted.

Gogo said the incident had brought tension in the school and there was need for an urgent address urging the girls to report any case of sexual harassment to relevant authority.

“The increased cases of pregnancies and HIV infections among school girls in this area are a result of defilement. We must join hands and stop all vices that can ruin the future of girls in Rangwe,” Gogo said.
