At least 350 children drawn from all 47 counties have converged in Kiambu County for the Children Devolution Conference.
The five days event being held at M-PESA Foundation Academy in Thika Town aims to provide a platform where children will air their opinions on matters children.
The event under the theme Empowering Young Voices. A Decade and the future of Children in Kenya is organized by the Council of Governors, Senate, and other child-minding partners commenced yesterday and will end on the 7th of July.
It seeks to provide a platform where children will engage with their governors on their issues in an event that precedes the annual devolution conference where all 47 Governors meet to discuss various issues.
The overall objective of the children’s conference will be to take stock of devolution from a child’s perspective in the following thematic areas of peace, values and cohesion, education, health, Infrastructure, energy, child protection, and environment.
The 2023 Children Devolution Conference is designed to facilitate children to hold the state and especially the county governments to account for the delivery and implementation of all child-centered and related functions provided for in the Constitution.
It aims to stir interest and commitment by county governments to ensure children are fully involved in the decision-making at the county level during the implementation of the agendas and programs that affects them.
