August 4, 2023

The council has flagged the press release and termed it fake.

This press release purportedly issued by the Media Council of Kenya(MCK) is FAKE.

The document claims that MCK expressed concern after derogatory terms were hurled at a journalist who sought answers from Kericho Governor Eric Mutai regarding alleged embezzlement of Londiani accident compensation funds.

The statement  was accompanied by a text reading: “Governor, hulling insults to the media personnel is an act of cowardice. If you are not guilty why these hubris.”

To confirm the statement’s authenticity, we checked MCK’s verified Twitter and Facebook pages, but the document was not there. Instead, we found this post disowning it.

According to the media council, the statement did not originate from them and should be disregarded.

Additionally, such a story would have been widely covered by the local media, however, a keyword search did not yield positive results.

Mtoto News examined a press release purportedly issued by the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) and found it to be FAKE.
