FALSE: This video isn’t of Kenyan soldiers in Haiti in October 2023

The video is from 20th March 2023 during anti-government protests in Kisumu, Kenya.

This video shared on TikTok supposedly of Kenyan forces overwhelmed by gangs in Haiti is FALSE.

“Kimewaramba huko Haiti (they are having it bad in Haiti) , Kenyans forces overwhelmed by HAITI gangs : Situation in Haiti,” reads the caption on the video.

To confirm the video’s authenticity, we performed a Google reverse image search on the video’s screenshot and discovered that the photo was posted by Kenyans.co.ke, a local news website on 20 March 2023. 

According to Kenyans.co.ke, the footage originated from Kisumu, during Azimio la Umoja One Kenya’s antigovernmental protests.

Additionally, the Cabinet Secretary of Interior and Administration of National Government, Kithure Kindiki, issued a statement on 8 October, 2023 noting that Kenyan soldiers will only be deployed to Haiti after approval by Parliament, which is yet to happen.

Further, on 9 October 2023, Citizen TV Kenya reported that the High Court has temporarily blocked the deployment of Kenyan police to Haiti or any other country pending the hearing of a petition filed by the Thirdway Alliance Kenya and two others.

Mtoto News examined a video on Tiktok supposedly of an incident of the Kenyan forces in Haiti and found it to be FALSE.
