1,140 out of 841,416 candidates who sat for the Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education, KCSE, exam last year obtained an overall A grade in the just released 2022 KCSE exams.
173,345 candidates scored C+ and above and are qualified for university after meeting the entry grade.
This was announced by Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Friday at Mitihani House for the exam conducted between December 2 and December 23 last year.
He said the results were released early to allow student and parents alike to have adequate time to prepare as they await their entry into tertiary institution.
The CS said, individual candidates results can also be accessed by sending a candidate’s index number followed by the initials ‘KCSE’ through a Short Message Service (SMS) to 20076.
According to Machogu, 841,416 candidates sat for 2022 KCSE examinations compared to 826,807 candidates in 2021,
437,772 were females while 443,644 of the candidates were male.
In addition those who scored A in 2022 were more by two compared to 1138 of 2021. 271 female candidates got an A, while 875 boys got a similar grade.
The number of candidates with D+ and above was 522, 588 while 30,822 scored below E.
14 counties had more male than female candidates compared to 17 counties in 2021.
The counties included Mombasa, Kilifi, Tana River, Lamu, Turkana, Samburu, West Pokot, Kajiado, Narok, Homa Bay, Migori, Garissa and Mandera.
271 female candidates got an A, while 875 boys got a similar grade. 962 females scored A- while 4445 male students scored a similar grade.
6104 female candidates obtained B+ while 9578 male candidates also scored a B+.13,520 female students got a B plain, while 17,783 male obtained a similar grade.
21,474 female candidates obtained a B- grade, while 27,245 male students scored similar grade.
33,138 female candidates had C+ while 36,960 boys also had the same grade. 49,191 female candidates scored C while 45,963 boys getting a similar grade.62, 599, females obtained C- while 56,469 boys also scored the same grade.
75,545 male candidates had D, and 79,935 girls got the same grade. 84,075 female candidates got D- while 83,683 boys scored a similar grade.
12,760 female candidates scored E, while 18,062.boys scored the same grade.
