July 17, 2024

Uasin Gishu County, Kenya – Three young children under 10 years old have sadly died because of a Hepatitis A outbreak in Uasin Gishu County.

The County Health Executive, Abraham Serem, said that ten more cases of Hepatitis A have been found in the area, mainly in Ziwa within the Soy sub-county.

Serem mentioned that there has been a big rise in Hepatitis A cases recently and said it’s very important to take action right away. “We have ordered testing kits and are working with the Ministry of Health to quickly find and handle the cases,” he said.

All the cases were found through tests at Moi Referral Hospital. Due to heavy rains in the region, there could be more outbreaks of diseases. Because of this, public health officers are now watching the situation closely in all areas.

Governor Jonathan Bii visited Uasin Gishu County Hospital and promised to improve health facilities to help reduce the crowding at Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital. The county also plans to promote health workers to help manage the situation better.
