After completing KPSEA, learners move to Senior School. This is an exciting time because you begin to learn more about who you are and what you enjoy doing. Under the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC), learners do not all learn the same way. That is why the CBC offers pathways, so every learner can grow in an area that suits them. One of these is the Sports and Arts pathway.
The Sports and Arts pathway is for learners who love to move, create and express themselves. If you enjoy playing sports, dancing, singing, drawing, acting, or designing things, this pathway gives you the space to grow your talent. It shows that learning is not only about books, but also about skills, creativity and physical strength.
Sports and Arts learning starts early. In Junior Secondary School (Grades 7–9), learners take part in Physical Education, Creative Arts, Music, Drama and other activities. These help learners discover what they are good at, build confidence and learn how to work with others. By the time you finish Grade 9, you may already know if sports or creative work is something you enjoy.
In Senior School, learners in the Sports and Arts pathway study subjects that help them improve their talents. Some learners focus more on sports, learning about fitness, training, teamwork and healthy living. Others focus on the arts, such as visual art, music, dance, drama, film, or design. These subjects help learners practise their skills and express their ideas in different ways.
Just like all learners, those in the Sports and Arts pathway also study compulsory subjects. These include languages, Community Service Learning, Mathematics, ICT skills, Physical Education and Religious Education. These subjects help learners communicate well, use technology safely, stay healthy and learn how to be responsible members of society.
The Sports and Arts pathway can lead to many future opportunities. Learners may become athletes, coaches, fitness trainers, artists, musicians, actors, dancers, designers, or filmmakers. Some may work in the creative or sports industries, while others may start their own businesses using their talents.
This pathway is best for learners who enjoy learning by doing. It suits learners who like practice, movement, performance and creativity. It is also for learners who feel confident expressing their ideas through art or using their bodies to play and compete.
The Sports and Arts pathway reminds us that every talent matters. Creativity and physical ability are important skills in life. Through this pathway, learners learn to believe in themselves, develop their gifts and share them with the world.
