The entire community of Taif Village in Garsen Constituency in Tana river county is overjoyed after KenGen constructed a now unveiled primary school named after the current president of Kenya.
This came in to save the learners and teachers from the agony of having to risk their lives every time they have to pass through the wildlife-inhabited forest on their way to a neighboring school.
Learners in the past had no option but to walk for over 2 kilometers to get their education at Galini Primary School. They had to risk their lives since they would experience wildlife attacks in the dense forests.
According to the Garsen Member of Parliament (MP) Ali Wario Guyo, residents of Taif Village moved there after floods destroyed their homes in 2019 right before the covid-19 pandemic hit. Upon settling, the women constructed mud classrooms for their children to have a place to learn. The funds solicited included donations from families and money from donors.
“These people settled here because of the floods. We have come to celebrate the school started by the parents,” he said.
It is when KenGen, through a CSR project courtesy of the MP funded the construction of 2 permanent classrooms and a toilet in the school. They decided to name it Uhuru Kenyatta Primary School in celebration of President Uhuru Kenyatta’s 10-year presidential term.
In addition, MP Ali went with Tana Delta Sub-county Deputy County Commissioner John Kipsiwa, the Director of Education Feisal Obo, and the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) director Bute Shomboro to present the certificate of registration for Dalu Primary School.
The Garsen MP has also promised to put aside money for the construction of two classrooms, an administration block, and a security fence to promote the safety of children in the school.
6 secondary schools are currently being constructed in the area, bringing the toll of public schools in Garsen to seventy-three. Such will encourage more children to attend school and shun early marriages which is predominant in Tana River County.
