HEALTH-CHILDREN LANDING STORIES BY CHILDREN-CHILDREN

Celebrating Neurodiversity!!!

Did you know that not everyone’s brain works the same way? Some kids learn, think, and see the world differently—that’s called neurodiversity! Neurodiversity means that people have different ways of learning, solving problems, and experiencing things.

From March 17-23, 2025, the world is celebrating Neurodiversity Celebration Week! This week is all about understanding and appreciating kids who may have autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or other learning differences. Instead of focusing only on the challenges they face, we celebrate their super skills—like creativity, problem-solving, and coming up with awesome new ideas!

For some kids, school and making friends might feel harder. Some may find reading tricky, get overwhelmed by loud noises, or struggle to sit still in class. But guess what? Many neurodivergent kids are amazing at storytelling, thinking outside the box, or noticing things others might miss!

In some places, like the UK, schools are changing to help neurodivergent students by making classrooms quieter, using different learning styles, and providing cool tools to help them learn. But what about in Kenya?

Here, more people are learning about neurodiversity, but many schools don’t have the right support yet. Some teachers might not know how to help kids with ADHD or dyslexia, and many schools don’t have special plans to support different learning needs. The good news? Some schools are starting to change! A few now have special classes, speech therapy, and extra learning help for kids who need it. But there’s still a long way to go.

This week, let’s celebrate our differences and make sure every child gets the support they need to shine. After all, the world needs all kinds of minds!
