Safe Online Invests $4M to Generate Evidence on Tackling OCSEA

Laptops are installed with Kolibri, a free and open source education technology platform allows in and out of school pupils and students to learn at their own pace. For students with special needs the platform also contains videos in sign language, e-books for children with low vision and audio books for the benefit of children with disabilities. UNICEF in close collaboration with Ministry of Education and Sports is implementing an initiative that is focusing on developing accessible reading materials for the blind, visually impaired, deaf and hard of hearing primary school children in 20 schools in Uganda. This is a technology-based design for accessible reading materials and working with text that enables children who are blind, low vision users, the Deaf and hard of hearing to access the materials. Additionally, text to speech with either screen readers or direct narration using natural voices, picture descriptions were employed in pictorial translations for the children who are blind and enhanced graphical presentations for those with low vision. Pictures in the books were graphically enhanced with the support graphical software to meet the needs of children with low vision.

Safe Online is set to invest $4 million for generating crucial data and evidence to tackle online child sexual exploitation and abuse (OCSEA).
