The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) on June 27, 2026, launched a new e-Certificate platform, allowing former Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) candidates to apply for and download their certificates online after verifying their identity .The platforms covers candidates who sat their national examinations between 1989 and 2025

The new platform launched on June 27,2026 ,is expected to make accessing KCSE certificates faster, easier, and more secure. It replaces a process that was frustrating for many students, for many years it required former candidates to travel back to their schools, complete paperwork, and wait days, weeks, or even months before receiving their certificates. Some also struggled to access their certificates because they had relocated, their schools had closed, or the documents had not been released.

The move is part of KNEC’s efforts to digitise examination services and improve access to academic documents. The online system will also make it easier for universities, employers, and other institutions to verify certificates, helping reduce cases of fraud and fake academic documents.

KNEC has also directed schools  to release KCSE certificates to candidates without unnecessary delays Schools that fail to release certificates without a valid reason risk facing sanctions.

For thousands of former students across Kenya, the new platform could save time, reduce travel costs, and remove one of the biggest challenges many have faced after completing secondary school. As more government services move online, the initiative marks another step towards making education services more accessible and convenient for all.
